Watching #openingceremonies with @biobeeboy. Still don't know why they did Kenneth Branagh up like Abe Lincoln. Little weird.

Some thought he going for an “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter” look.

Why is Kenneth Branagh dressed like Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter? #london2012

And The New York Times found the costume more Dickensian.

New York Times: "Kenneth Branagh, dressed as a Dickens character, recited lines from "The Tempest"

So what costume was Branagh wearing as he recited Caliban’s speech from “The Tempest”? He was dressed as nineteenth century engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Abe Lincoln trending…he wasn't the only guy to wear a top hat you know! Kenneth Branagh is playing Isambard Kingdom Brunel!

That's Kenneth Branagh dressed as the great engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, by the way. #openingceremony #apolympics

Just to be historically accurate. Kenneth Branagh was playing Isambard Kingdom Brunel playing Caliban from The Tempest.

Kenneth Branagh is Isambard Kingdom Brunel – quoting from the Tempest – Boyle called him a 'genius' #London2012

So that clears things up, right?

I have learned today that William Shakespear actually was Brunel, dresses like Abraham Lincoln and sounds like Kenneth Branagh. Weird. #fb
